Lower Back Pain During PRegnancy

By: Dr. Kayla Beardsley

It is estimated that 50-70% of women experience low back pain at some point during their pregnancy. Although common this is not normal.

Low back pain can be caused by a variety of things- tight muscles, misalignment of the pelvic bones, and baby’s positioning, to name a few.

If you are expecting and suffering from low back pain, one of my most suggested tips for moms-to-be is to purchase a properly sized exercise ball, and instead of lounging on your couch at night or slouching at your desk, sit on the ball instead. The ball requires you to sit with proper alignment.

While sitting on the ball you can then perform pelvic tilts, clockwise and counterclockwise rotations of your hips, and when you master that- figure 8’s.

Sitting and performing movements on the ball can help reduce muscle tightness and keep your pelvis mobile in all its ranges. Having a ball handy during the early stages of labor can be soothing as well. :)

Give this a try and let me know how you do! Always feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to know more about chiropractic care during pregnancy.
